Book Blog Newbie Tag

Hello everyone! Today I thought that, to share a little more information about my reading and this blog, and to connect with some other bloggers, I would answer some of the questions from the Book Blog Newbie Tag, which I saw on Dani’s Bookshelf. So here goes!

Why did you start this blog?

I started hatterell because whilst I’m doing an English Literature degree and my whole course centres around books, I actually find it much easier to write down my thoughts and opinions than to share them verbally in a class. I think writing will help improve my writing skills and style alongside my presentation of ideas, which will be helpful in my degree and later down the line. Secondly, I read such a wide variety of books that there often isn’t someone that I can speak to about them in real life, and I would love to hear what others think of what I’m reading! That’s also a huge reason why I started this blog: to engage with other readers, hear their feedback on my writing, and to have fun discussing books!

What are some fun and unique things you can bring to book blogging?

I hope that as I learn more critical theories and schools of thinking, through both my degree and my own reading, this more critical perspective will become part of my writing and introduce new ideas to people. I don’t want to write too academically because I don’t want to exclude readers who aren’t interested in, or don’t have a critical background, but I think that this will be a twist I haven’t seen on many other blogs. I read a wide range of books and also have a few other interests that will feature on the blog, so I think that that variety will also be really fun!

What are you most excited about for this new blog?

I am excited to challenge myself with this blog, to engage in a project that is entirely my own creation and that I can do what I wish with. I’m excited to express myself and share all the bookish and non-bookish thoughts inside my head. I can’t wait to talk to like-minded and interesting people! And even if nobody reads this, I’m just excited to write and get my words out there.

Why do you love reading?

I love reading because I think that books contain so much enjoyment but also so much power. Whilst I enjoy an entertaining story where I can get attached to the characters, I equally enjoy novels that provide a view on history or society. Pieces that provide evaluation or some kind of social commentary and wider message can often be the most rewarding and thought-provoking.

What challenges about starting a book blog do you think will be the hardest to overcome?

I think that consistency may be a bit of a challenge for me, as I am unsure what my summer holds beyond June 15th, when I return home for the holidays! I also want to challenge myself to keep being engaging with my content and trying new things but worry that I may not actually have as many ideas as I think and become rather repetitive.

When did you start reading? In my mother’s womb, I expect!

Where do you read?

On my bed, my parent’s sofa, public transport, or my work’s staff room.

What kind of books do you like to read?

Any! But my favourites are fantasy, speculative fiction, classics, and YA.

Thank you for reading, and whether you are a new or an old book blogger, if you have done this tag I would love to read it! Drop a link in the comments below 😊
